Public outreach
Throughout my nearly 25-year career at the University of Zurich, my teaching has focused on ecology and the closely related fields of evolution and behavioural science. I have applied this interdisciplinary approach in lectures, practical courses and seminars, ranging from basic freshman studies and Bachelor education to the supervision of Master’s and Doctoral theses.
In addition to my university teaching, I have also regularly communicated topics from ecology, evolution and behavioural science to the general public. Activities undertaken for this purpose have included (and continue to include) lectures, radio interviews, a television documentary, as well as articles for newspapers and popular science books. During the Darwin Year in 2009, I was a member of the committee that oranised numerous public lectures and exhibitions in Zurich. Since my retirement, I have been accompanying expedition cruises to the Arctic as a guest speaker (see link to Cruise lectures).
